CORT AND FATBOY: 'Extract,' Hood to Coast, nutria, and the Father of Oregon

The Friday, Sept. 4 "Cort and Fatboy" broadcast just kind of flew off the rails toward the end. The increasingly silly topics of discussion included:

• Mike Judge's latest (and subtlest) comedy, "Extract."

• The career prospects of Mr. Jason Bateman.

• The next CulturePulp comic, now in production.

• Hood to Coast as a horror-film premise.

• Beavers and nutria.

• Memories of working at the Clackamas Review community newspaper with Dawn Taylor and "Jaxxon's 11" artist David Stroup.

• Memories of Dawn Taylor making the Oregon City Historical Society very angry with her merciless taunting of "The Father of Oregon," Dr. John McLoughlin.

• A terrifying photograph of Dr. John McLoughlin (pictured at left).

• My long-ago comic strip about Dr. John McLoughlin.

• The Aquaman comic-book ad for Hostess Fruit Pies (pictured). (The original art for this ad hangs on a wall in Portland.)

• And finally, the impending arrival in Portland of Swedish "Cort and Fatboy" fan "anno-superstar."

This is one of the longer, stranger shows I've ever recorded with the lads. Enjoy. Or avoid.
