At Stumptown Comics Fest April 27-28, with new prints. Among other things.

I'm tabling at the Stumptown Comics Fest (Table F6) Saturday and Sunday, April 27-28, at the Portland Convention Center. Come on by. I'll draw you a free sketch, and I'll be selling all this stuff:

PRINTS! I'm debuting two new limited-run 12x12" prints at the Fest: "Super Cosplay Dance Party" and "Pete & Brucilla" (pictured above; click to enlarge). Lines by me. Colors by Bill Mudron. All-ages. Comes in a custom envelope printed with B&W lineart and art credits. Only 10 bucks each.

Oh, and "Super Cosplay Dance Party" (pictured below) is double-sided -- with a different color scheme by Bill on each side.

These are far and away the nicest pieces of paper I've ever put my name on, in terms of production value. Offset-printed in CMYK on nice toothy 100# classic laid paper by Lowell's Print Inn. Only ordered 200 of each. (I should also have a few uncut printer's proofs.) Here's a closeup of the paper. Here's video of the job on the presses.

POSTERS AND BADGES! Bill Mudron and I drew this year's Stumptown Comics Fest poster (at right). Bring one by and I'll totally sign it.

(Bill and I also had a hand in the Fest badges, but you should probably just write your own name on those.)

SHIRTS! I'll be selling the "Spoiler Alert" t-shirt I designed earlier this year for the PDX Browncoats. All proceeds go to them.

BOOKS! I'll have copies of both "Sabertooth Vampire" minicomics, "Santa's Lil' Gimp" and my five or so remaining copies of "Cort and Fatboy and the Secret of the Buried Unicorns."

FREE STUFF! Barring disaster, I'll have giveaways of my "Opera, Drawn Quickly" comics (courtesy the Portland Opera) and Vol. 1 of "Jaxxon's 11," my super-specific spoof (with David Stroup) of 1970s Marvel "Star Wars" comics.

Dylan Meconis first popped up on the webcomics scene with her French-revolution vampire comedy "Bite Me!" and cemented her reputation with dark historical drama "Family Man." Along the way she's also redrawn the "Danse Macabre" for a new generation and spun her own fable of corruption with the Eisner-nominated "Outfoxed." Mike Russell of CulturePulp.com will interview Meconis about her style and genre-hopping comics, world-building vs. storytelling, coming of age as an artist online, and her influences outside of comics.

Oh, and I think I might be in this year's Comic Art Battle at the Saturday-night After Party, but I'm not sure yet. Check this space for updates.

Podcast catch-up: 'Skyfall,' 'Twilight,' 'Back to the Future,' an interview for 'Notebook on Cities and Culture' and a special annoucement.

Catching up with some recent podcast appearances:

• During the Friday, Nov. 16  "Cort and Fatboy" podcast, I sort of went off on "Twilight: Breaking Dawn Part 2," sorry. Also: Bond, competing "Prometheus" scripts, the Internet cottage-industry economy, and a liquor-store beef. Show-notes in the comments.

• On the Friday, Nov. 9 "Cort and Fatboy," we talked about "Skyfall" (which is pretty damn terrific) and riffed on a variation of The Avengers made entirely of comic-strip-characters (Hagar the Horrible as Thor, Billy from Family Circus as The Hulk, etc.). We may have also reminisced about the long, winding, multi-building history of the show.

• The Friday, Nov. 2 "Cort and Fatboy" deals in Huey Lewis, bad dancing, James Bond, the Disney/Lucasfilm deal,  and vague-tweeting -- this last topic for reasons detailed below...

• On Thursday, Nov. 1, we also recorded our final "Midnight Movie Commentary," this one for "Back to the Future." Featuring Cort, Fats, Dave Walker, Erik Henriksen and yrs. truly. What's that? "Final," you say? Well, fun fact: Immediately after we finished recording this, Cort and Fats informed us that they were canceling their show. More on the live Dec. 7 series finale here.

• Oh, and finally, if you go in for that sort of thing, the v. nice Colin Marshall interviewed yrs. truly about my "CulturePulp" non-fiction comic, fan cultures, "The Sabertooth Vampire" and more for his "Notebook on Cities & Culture" podcast. In a hilarious ironic twist, I spend a bunch of the interview talking about my history with "Cort and Fatboy" and the communities to which it introduced me.

(BTW, I highly recommend checking out Marshall's other "Notebook" episodes -- his interviews with Geoff Dyer, "Hollywood" Steve Huey and Karina Longworth are excellent.)

Live Wire! Radio essay: 'Star Wars 7up'

Was honored and secretly terrified to appear on the season-finale episode of "Live Wire! Radio" on June 1, backing up headliner guests Lizz Winstead and Kasey Anderson and The Honkies.

I read an essay on my complicated relationship with "Star Wars" -- checking in on my fandom in seven-year-increments, noting the changes.

Take My Love, Wear This Shirt

The PDX Browncoats asked me to design the t-shirt for this year's "Can't Stop the Serenity" charity screenings in Portland -- where they'll show Joss Whedon's "Serenity" (or, as I like to call it, "Han Solo: The Movie") plus the "Firefly" episode "Out of Gas" to raise money for Equality Now. I gather the event will also feature a performance by the delightful Doubleclicks.

So here you go. Kinda went for a vague Nostromo crew patch vibe. Lines by me. Colors by the great Bill Mudron.

Oh, right -- I'll be at the Stumptown Comics Fest this weekend. Table C-11, next to my pal Bill Mudron. Planned for my table this year:

Assuming the train to Seattle runs on time, I'll be selling/signing "Sabertooth Vampire" comics from 2-4 p.m. on Saturday 3/31 at the PDX Browncoats table at the Emerald City Comicon.

The table -- located in the ECCC foyer -- will have my comics for sale all weekend. Pop on by and say howdy. I will gladly draw you a tiny picture.

WEDNESDAY: A BIG FAT BOOK-RELEASE PARTY

 

This Wednesday, April 13, from 6 to 8 p.m., David Walker and I join forces for a book-release party at Bridge City Comics (3725 N. Mississippi Ave., Portland). David will have copies of his terrific young-adult novel "Darius Logan: Super Justice Force." I'll have hard copies of my first "Sabertooth Vampire" minicomic and "Cort and Fatboy and the Secret of the Buried Unicorns" (and maybe a couple of fun freebies).
